Another quick look at wikipedia debunked any claim for anti-oxidants as the next dietary supplement of the new millennium. However, all the research on the acai berry did get me thinking that all those people in Brazil who still continue to eat this fruit can`t be wrong. Rather than think of acai berry as the latest diet wonder drug it would perhaps be better to say that as a daily supplement it helps to reduce weight gain much in the same way that eating raw fish helps the Japanese have a longer expected life span.

Steeling my tongue and my wallet, I set out seeing how the acai berry tastes like. I was expecting a tart, sour grape taste thanks to the similar shape and proportions but I was quickly brought to my senses thanks to its bitter aftertaste. Mixing it in with a fruit juice or shake or just getting a nice store-bought blend was then the way to go. Determined to see if the acai berry benefits actually worked for me I got myself a sample and set out to see what would happen over a month-long period. The results were mixed, I have to say. My earlier expectations of ‘next wonder drug` were clearly met as I didn`t get any instant rush of energy and well-being which was claimed by so many exponents as being acai berry benefits. However over time, I`ve found that those Brazilians actually did find something good as I slowly but gradually lost that extra 2 pounds, just enough to shift my BMI from borderline to healthy. Now in my fifth week of using the acai berry supplement, cutting it into my meals and finding new ways to consume it I find that the acai berry benefits are there somewhat but more or less what you`d expect from adding a bit more fibre to your diet. Yes, I`ve lost a little bit more weight and yes, going to the loo for some quality time on the throne is a lot easier now. My skin is a little bit healthier and the crow-feet near my eyes are a little less pronounced now.
